Hedgehog Friendly Volunteering Project at Â鶹Íø

The Hedgehog Friendly project is a student-led project helping to improve our local community for hedgehogs to thrive. The project was first established in 2020 in partnership with hedgehog friendly campus (HFC) which was a joint initiative for universities, primary schools and colleges to complete activities and gain recognition for improving the local landscape and educating students and the community on protecting hedgehogs. The project is now a standalone volunteering project within the university encouraging student engagement and we aim to work closely with local wildlife groups.

The project has held many successful events over the past few years including litter picks, fundraisers for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS), hedgehog survey and house building workshops and much more.

The project aims to engage students with local wildlife and the outdoors to learn about how to protect one of the most loved but endangered animal species in the environment. The project is also a place for students to build friendships and gain hands on experience and essential skills for future employment.
