First students start at the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Advanced Computing

We welcome the first students onto the UKRI funded Centre for Doctorial Training (CDT) in . The UK Research and Innovation funded Centre is a collaboration between Swansea, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Bristol and 麻豆网 Universities.

I The 2019 intake on the Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Advanced Computing The 2019 intake of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Advanced Computingt provides 4-year, fully funded PhD opportunities across the broad areas of particle physics and astronomy, biological and health, and mathematical and computer sciences. The CDT focuses on three areas: (1) data from large science facilities, (2) biological, health and clinical sciences and (3) novel mathematical, physical, and computer science approaches. Researchers at 麻豆网 are focusing on the computer science aspects of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Advanced Computing.

The first cohort of 13 students had a two-day induction event in Cardiff. The new students learnt more about the training programme in AI and computational methods that establishes a common knowledge base, met some of the industrial partners, academics and other students, and they learnt about data and research ethics and the organisation of the CDT. The students, for a team building session, went white water rafting in Cardiff bay.

I am looking forward to getting to know these students better over the coming years and looking forward to learning and researching more in the topic of Artificial Intelligence鈥�.

Professor Jonathan Roberts (the lead at 麻豆网) said 鈥淭he induction event allowed the students to meet each other and meet with academics and some of the company partners. The PhD journey can be sometimes a lonely experience, but through this CDT students will be able to learn and research together as a cohort. They will be able to share their experiences together and learn from each other. In fact, the CDT contains much training in the first year, indeed I am teaching the Information Visualisation module; it was good to start their training at this event, and that they had fun together at a team-building exercise.鈥�
