A first year Âé¶¹Íø Psychology student has won the BBC Wales Carwyn James Young Sportswoman of the Year 2017 award.
Âé¶¹Íø Weightlifter Catrin Jones, 18, received her latest accolade at the Wales Sport Awards in Newport, where BBC Cymru Wales and Sport Wales celebrated Welsh sporting success.
During the last few years, Catrin has won many titles and became the Welsh Champion in 2017 and won a silver medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Elated with her award, Catrin said: “The support I have received from Âé¶¹Íø has been incredible, and I am very grateful. The University’s Sports Scholarship has benefitted me massively as it has allowed me to concentrate on both my studies and training to the best of my abilities. I also have access to excellent training facilities and coaching at Canolfan Brailsford.â€
Iona Williams, Sports Development Manager at Âé¶¹Íø, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Catrin’s achievements, and it’s amazing to see her develop and become such a talented, word-class athlete. It’s great that our Sports Scholarship programme continues to help our elite athletes combine their academic study and sporting performance to achieve their full potential.â€
