The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring

Who is it for?

The course for Coaches and Mentors in Management is aimed at participants who will be involved in management coaching and mentoring within an organisation or as a freelancer. Practising managers (or those working in a training and development role) who will use the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as coaches and mentors as part of their normal working role and who will make a difference to their people and their business results. Managers may be expected to help others develop similar levels of competence and this can include coaching individuals.

What are the benefits?

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring in Management aims to provide practising managers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as coaches or mentors as part of their normal work role. The qualification is made up of three mandatory units which enable participants to understand, develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills in workplace coaching and mentoring. Developing these skills, will assist you to identify the links between coaching, mentoring and the achievement of business goals.

For the Individual: You will build a skill set that will help you optimise the performance of others and, therefore, make a significant impact to your key result areas. For employed participants this often leads to greater job security and may even open the door to promotion opportunities by the nature of the impact you have? For Self Employed practitioners you will create measureable and billable results. The course will also enhance self- awareness and self belief, coupled with appropriate behaviours and attitudes.
For Organisations: You are building your sustainability and profitability by getting greater results from your people in a way that grows and develops the talent in your business for the long term.

What is involved?

Our approach adopts a highly practical approach to coaching and mentoring, and assessment focuses on real skills development to ensure maximum real-time benefits.
Participants will get to critically review their own ability by engaging in practical and value adding exercises.
They will also critically review the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring to themselves and their organisations. Participants will plan, deliver and evaluate at least 12 hours of coaching that will make a measureable difference to their coachee(s).

The Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring in Management is made up of three mandatory units which enable participants to understand, develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills in workplace coaching and mentoring:

The first mandatory unit participants explore the characteristics of effective coaches and mentors, going on to present a case for using coaching or mentoring in their organisation.

In the second unit participants review their own ability as a management coach or mentor, exploring their ethical and moral views as well as communication skills.

During the final mandatory unit participants plan and deliver a short coaching or mentoring programme in line with their organisational, divisional or team goals.

While it is necessary to include some theoretical input, coaching and mentoring are skills that can only be learned on the job, so this course is delivered experientially, with participants encouraged to try out the tools and techniques they learn, reflect on their experiences and get feedback from peers and facilitator. The methods of delivery include input and demonstration from the facilitators, discussion, individual reflective exercises, group exercise and activities.

As well as the skills and capability you will receive an internationally recognised qualification and transferable qualification credit.

All learners also gain free studying membership of ILM for six months. Designed to help candidates get the most from their course and advance their management career, studying membership gives access to a wide range of specialist support and development materials and services.

What do I need?

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be practising middle managers. They should normally have successfully completed an ILM Level 3 qualification in Management, or higher, or an equivalent qualification HOWEVER, this is not mandatory.

Exceptional learners, who have no formal qualification in management or leadership, but who have hands on experience will also be considered.
