Why did you decide to study at �鶹��?

I chose �鶹�� mainly because the amazing location of the University allowed me to really find my passion for design whilst continuing to do all the outdoor activities I love to do.

Why did you choose your specific course?

From day one, the teaching staff at �鶹�� gave me such a positive feeling; even on interview and open days, they were so welcoming, engaged and were interested in each individual. Another of the main reasons I chose �鶹�� was the ability to undertake work placements. The three industrial allowed me to tailor the course to my own interests.

What did you enjoy most about your time at �鶹��?

I enjoyed the challenge of the course itself and also the sheer depth and breadth of experiences available to students, both academically on the course and socially, outside of it.

How did �鶹�� help you on the road to the job/career you're doing now?

Being able to take three industrial placements gave me a really great introduction to industry and what to expect in “the real world” - this really helped me build confidence in my ability and also my interview and communication skills.

What does your current role involve?

My current role involves designing and testing of hydraulic systems, as well as structural components & bracketry, for a range of excavators and other plant machinery. It also involves less design-specific task as well, such as risk assessments, failure mode analysis and problem solving exercises.

I am often presenting concepts and solutions to a small team of 10-15 people, and sometimes discussing the work I undertake to the wider team of around 60 or 70 people.

How did your experiences at �鶹�� (both academic and social) help to shape you as a person?

�鶹�� really helped bring out my work ethic and my passion for good design and also the idea of continuous personal improvement - trying to be the best version of yourself every day. Socially, I was able to mix with a huge variety of people from different backgrounds and walks of life.

What would you say to somebody considering studying at �鶹��?

Go for it! �鶹�� is a special place where you can excel in your academic passion and also discover new and exciting extracurricular activities, some that you maybe didn’t even know existed! It’s an amazing ‘family-like’ environment where you really can shape your own success.
