Daf Palfrey is an award-winning filmmaker, television director/producer, and screenwriting lecturer at Â鶹Íø. With decades of experience in the creative industries, Daf has established himself as a multi-talented artist with high creative standards, dedicated to storytelling across various media including film, television, music, and comics. His work is defined by its distinct style, often combining humour, emotional depth, and experimental elements. Daf’s approach to storytelling emphasises transformation, emotional resonance, and character-driven narratives.

Daf earned his degree (1st Class Hons) from Camberwell College of Arts in Graphic Design/Moving Image. He has won a BAFTA Cymru for Hei Hanes (a series he devised, wrote, and directed) in 2022, and an RTS Award for the BBC series Historyonics in 2005, along with numerous industry awards and nominations. His short film Titsh was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award in 2018. Daf has worked for major broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and S4C, as well as high-profile production companies such as Tiger Aspect, BBC Studios, and Cream. His work has been featured on UK and international broadcasters like Nat Geo, Discovery, and HBO. In addition, Daf has directed approximately 40 music videos, some of which he edited himself.

In addition to his filmmaking career, Daf is a 3rd Dan in Karate and an accomplished musician. He has directed numerous television programmes and continues to develop original feature film projects under his company, Twang. His teaching at Â鶹Íø focuses on helping students refine their creative voices and produce work that is both meaningful and marketable.

Daf has also run storyboarding workshops for Friar’s School students and through It's My Shout, as well as screenwriting courses for the NFTS Cymru.

Daf’s recent projects include Olion, a well-received film demonstrating his meticulous attention to detail and collaborative spirit. The production of Olion also provided valuable practical experience for second- and third-year Â鶹Íø students, who contributed to the film's camera, sound, and art departments. Daf is also developing Keep It Clean (Welsh title: Llanast), a dark comedy feature, and Gren's Pen, a period piece set in 1970s Caerphilly, which aims to blend humour and emotional storytelling to powerful effect.
