Dr Dyfrig Jones

Dr Dyfrig Jones

Overview

Dyfrig Jones began lecturing at Âé¶¹Íø in September 2008. Before joining the university he worked as a television producer-director, specialising in factual programming. He was also the editor of the current affairs magazine Barn between 2006 and 2008.

Dyfrig's teaching is mainly focused on documentary filmmaking, and he offers modules in both documentary film production and film analysis. He also offers modules on media history and media policy. 

Dyfrig's primary research interest is in the historical development of public broadcasting, with an emphasis on the USA in the mid-20th Century

Between 2009 and 2013 Dyfrig was a member of the S4C Authority, which is the body responsible for providing the Welsh-language television service. During 2010 he chaired S4C's New Media Forum, and in 2012-2013 he was a director of S4C Commercial. Between 2015 and 2019 Dyfrig was a member of the National Library of Wales' Board of Trustees. And between 2008 and 2017 he was a member of Gwynedd Council, serving as Chair of the Corporate Scrutiny Committee between 2014 and 2016.

Dyfrig is the Chair of Partneriaeth Ogwen, a social enterprise located in the Ogwen Valley that works to improve the economy and environment of the local area. Between 2013 and 2023 he was also the Chair of the Neuadd Ogwen Management Board, which runs the Neuadd Ogwen community arts centre.
