Dr Liyang Yue

Dr. Liyang Yue is a Senior Lecturer (associate professor) in Laser Material Processing at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Â鶹Íø. He received his BSc in Electromechanical Engineering from the South China University of Technology, P.R. China, in 2008, and an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 2009. In 2013, he was awarded a PhD. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK.

Dr Liyang Yue joined Â鶹Íø in 2015 as a Sêr Cymru National Research Network (NRN) Early-Career Research Fellow. He was shortlisted for the 2017 Royal Society Newton Prize, awarded a lectureship at the school in 2018, and promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2024. His research interests include laser material processing, micro 3D printing, and near-field optics.

  • In this project, two current-driven liquid crystal lenses (Optotune EL-10-42-OF) will be added to the current two nanosecond fibre laser modules (wavelengths: 1064 nm and 532 nm) at Â鶹Íø Dean Street to realise the tunable laser focuses in the depth direction (z-axis). The advanced Â鶹Íø 3D laser making systems can participate in many innovation activities and research projects in North Wales relating to the local business growth, communication network/infrastructure building, and rejuvenation of nuclear facilities.

  • Using a laser engraving equipment and a software to show the visitors the process of the laser engraving. The marking process will be recorded through a video camera and shown on a computer monitor, so the visitors will be able to watch the whole marking process.
